Winner - Xuberdance
Xuberdance offer any young person the opportunity to enjoy performance and dance. The group is inclusive for young people with disabilities or learning difficulties and everyone has a chance to perform
Xuberdance performs at many local galas and events and the group is run by volunteers with some of the young people also taking up volunteer roles. They inspire and encourage others to take part, showing that everyone is equal and has the same opportunities.
The group brings the community together by showing that no matter what someone’s ages or ability, they can all create a great performance together. Xuberdance offers its classes at an affordable price.
2nd - Crofton Young People's Association
Crofton Young People's Association has worked tirelessly for the last nine years to deliver a youth facility for the children of Crofton, Walton, Ryhill, Sharlston and beyond. It provides a safe and welcoming space for the young children to spend time together.
The group regularly sees attendances of up to 60 children. The group provides games and activities for all and this year have already had various craft activities including boxing, skin care and bath bomb making.
The group organises free events in the village for all to participate in and the members also take part in regular fundraising activities. The free events for the wider community range from galas to Easter and Christmas fayres.
3rd - Airedale Boys Brigade
The Boys Brigade is a group run solely by volunteers and have been nominated for providing brilliant activities in the Airedale community. Their volunteering isn't just about attending each week but also involves planning, training, raising money and being positive role models within the local community.
Boys who take part in this Boys Brigade group can take part in activities or attend trips they would otherwise have limited access to. Through taking part, the boys receive rewards and take on new responsibilities within the group which can improve resilience and raise awareness of some of the positive values in the local community.
This Boys Brigade group provide activities all year and it's funded through weekly subscriptions and fundraising such as sales and sponsored events. Examples of the activities are cooking, crafts, drama, discussions and trips out to the local area to learn about history of places such as Fairburn Ings Nature Reserve.
