Mia Boggett

Mia, 8, has been nominated for her brilliant work in the community. She can often be seen out and about with her grandparents picking up litter in the local area.

Mia has overcome challenges to create some really good relationships at school and is now sacrificing some of her own time to help the year below with their maths work. She also dances in an inclusive dance group, helping their wheelchair users to join in the fun.

Mia supports her good friend who is a wheelchair user, helping her get around and making sure she doesn’t have to miss out on any activity or party. Mia has overcome her own challenges to really focus on others and how she can help make her community a better place.

Clay Gibson

Clay, 16, has been a valued member and coach at his local street dance crew since he joined at the age of 12. Clay currently works on a one-to-one basis with a little girl and a young adult male who have significant learning difficulties.

Clay is a huge advocate for social inclusion and his can-do approach has enabled these two people to take part in several community events over the years. He has improved their dancing and performance skills and more importantly promoted their independence and social skills.

He spends time with the little girl, encouraging her to dance independently, teaching her the moves so she fits in with everybody else but also embracing her sparkle, so she stands out from the crowd. He also gives up his time to work with a 19-year-old male with specific needs, the two have a very special bond which has enabled the young man to take part in the group.

Shabaan Saleem

Shabaan has been active in his community since a young age and started working at a hospital at the age of 16. He worked there throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic and, tragically, during this time he lost his dad.

Despite this setback, Shabaan continued to pour his heart and soul into supporting his community. He helps at food banks, has started litter picks and he has recently become the youngest elected BAME councillor in Wakefield.

Shabaan has campaigned to keep local facilities open, such as the local pharmacy and has held multiple community charity events supporting good causes such as Cancer Research UK and British Red Cross. Shabaan’s incredible journey and selfless dedication have had a profound impact on the wider community in Wakefield.
